Berkshire South’s Annual 5K Run/Walk & Breakfast Sponsored by Health New England a Great Success

Great Barrington, MA – Berkshire South Regional Community Center, through the generosity of Health New England (HNE),, hosted its 3rd annual 5K Run/Walk and Breakfast on Sunday, April 12th, kicking off at 8 a.m. and finishing at the Community Center with a delicious morning meal prepared by Chef Tommy Lee. The run/walk is a popular fundraiser for the Center and we are most grateful to HNE for helping to make this year’s event more successful than ever before. Proceeds will be used in support of our Teen Outreach Nutrition Exercise (TONE) program, as well as other youth fitness programs and classes at the Community Center.

Held on the first weekend in long memory with warm sunshine and blue skies, the event attracted more than 125 participants of all ages. Those who took part included families; beginner, intermediate and serious runners; and walkers of all kinds. Each contestant was given a complimentary tee shirt, a day pass to the community Center and delicious breakfast. Health New England was thanked as our sponsor, and winners were announced, with prizes awarded to those placing first and second in each of the following categories: Adult Male (ages 18+), Adult Female (ages 18+), Youth Male (between ages 13-17), Youth Female (between ages 13-17) and Child (between ages 8 – 12).

“Thank you, Health New England,” Executive Director Jenise Lucey said with a smile. “This has been such an enjoyable experience for us. They were wonderful to work with, and I look forward to partnering with HNE again in the future.”

The Center would also like to acknowledge Berkshire Runners for excellent management of the finish line. This made the event more enjoyable for participants and was a marked improvement over previous years. The air of friendly competition, excitement, comradery and fun was contagious lending electricity to the run. It was a terrific kick-off to the first real day of spring, and spirits and energy were high.

Thank you to everyone who participated – we’re looking forward to next year’s fundraiser.
