Berkshire Bank awards $10,000 to fund Youth Summer Program at Berkshire South Regional Community Center

Great Barrington, Mass – Berkshire South Regional Community Center is very pleased to announce Berkshire Bank’s contribution of $10,000 in support of its new summer Learn To Lead (L2L) program for students who have completed 5th and 6th grades. We are especially grateful for this funding of a much-needed pilot program to serve this younger constituency, students who have grown beyond traditional summer camp but are not yet ready for the Teen Leadership Training (TLT) Program.

Locally, the Community Center staff has found that this age group is an underserved population while they are also among the most vulnerable. L2L will closely follow the model of TLT, a very successful key program in the Community Center’s multi-faceted Youth Intervention/Prevention Curriculum. Participants will explore what it means to be a leader, work on team-building and decision-making skills, and create opportunities to give back to the community. A field trip will be held each week to include visits to area businesses for financial literacy, various cultural venues, as well as to outdoor destinations.

“Berkshire Bank is such a strong partner in service to our constituents,” Executive Director Jenise Lucey observed. “This generous award is particularly meaningful as it will help us to launch a new program that is most needed by the community. Additionally, it underscores Berkshire Bank’s faith in our work, for which we are truly grateful.”

Held in two two-week sessions, L2L will be offered Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for a nominal fee of $15 per session. Please call (413)528-2810, ext. 30 for a registration packet and information.
