The Community Empowers Berkshire South to Provide Services to All
(Great Barrington, MA) November 21, 2014 – Berkshire South Regional Community Center announced the launch of its annual year end fundraising campaign. The nonprofit organization aims to raise $82,500 in support of its vast programs and services. Now in its 13th year, the Community Center has upheld its original commitment to make its resources available to all. To that end, Berkshire South Regional Community Center awards financial assistance for membership and programs, as well as free or discounted community space usage. These include a number of free events such as weekly community suppers, a ukulele band, a community choir, and the Teen Outreach Nutrition Exercise (TONE) program. Annually, they award over $100,000 in financial assistance stemming from more than 300 applicants. While membership provides a solid financial base, nearly 40% of the Community Center’s annual funding comes from the generosity of private donors.
With the community’s crucial financial support, Berkshire South is empowered to continue offering recreational, educational, cultural, health and social well-being programs to the people of the Southern Berkshires, regardless of their ability to pay. As Executive Director Jenise Lucey observes, “The Community Center is here to benefit everyone in Berkshire County; however, without the community’s support, it would not be possible to accomplish our mission fully. In truth, it is a mutually beneficial relationship – we help each other.”
The strong partnership between the Center and the community ultimately empowers both. The Community Center is able to address the needs of its constituents while the community avails itself of the programs and services offered there – a Win-Win.
The Community Center offers numerous ways to support the annual year end fundraising campaign outside of the usual mass mailing. On December 2, 2014, you may participate in the global social media movement – #GivingTuesday using this link: www.razoo.com/story/Givingtuesdayberkshiresouth. On December 3, 2014, tune in to WSBS AM860 for the annual Radiothon, or visit the Community Center during the first two weeks of December and participate in the community drawing. These efforts are coordinated by community activist, Barbara Manring and volunteer Jenni Hallock.
By donating to Berkshire South Regional Community Center, you will directly change the life of an individual or family. All donations are 100% tax deductible.
