Greylock donates $11,000 to Berkshire South Funds Weekly Free Supper program
PITTSFIELD, MA (August 4, 2015) — Greylock Federal Credit Union has donated $11,000 to Berkshire South Regional Community Center in Great Barrington. Berkshire South will use the $11,000 to purchase food and supplies for its Weekly Free Community Supper program.
Greylock President Marilyn L. Sperling said, “Berkshire South’s Weekly Free Community Supper program is well deserving of Greylock’s support. The program offers the comforts of good food and camaraderie to attendees and great opportunities for volunteerism. We commend Berkshire South and the volunteers for their service to our South County neighbors.”
Jenise L. Lucey, Executive Director at Berkshire South said, “We are grateful to Greylock for this generous donation. Our community based program nourishes mind, spirit and body and the guests who attend these meals look forward to the social interaction as much as the great food. All are thankful to Greylock.”
Over the past year weekly supper has served over 5,000 meals to the Berkshire population with attendees coming from 17 Berkshire County towns and bordering New York and Connecticut towns. Guests range in age from infants to seniors, with 60% of attendees being older people seeking not only a good dinner, but more significantly, quality time and conversation with others. Area chefs donate their time and talents to create nutritious, delicious culinary creations.
The mission of Berkshire South Regional Community Center is to build a sense of community and common purpose throughout the region, and to enhance the recreational, educational, cultural, health and social well-being of the residents of the Southern Berkshires.
