Welcome to Berkshire South

Explore the spaces that support programming, gatherings, and daily activity throughout the Center and its grounds. Designed to be welcoming and accessible to all, Berkshire South is fully ADA compliant, with accessible entrances, restrooms, and a single-floor layout throughout the building. Many of these areas are also available for private events and rentals, extending Berkshire South’s role as a hub for community connection.

Indoor Community Spaces

Our indoor community spaces are designed to bring people together. These flexible, multi-use areas are used for a wide range of Berkshire South community and fitness programs. During periods of extreme heat or cold, Berkshire South also serves as a designated Cooling Center and Warming Center, offering a welcoming place for community members to come inside, rest, and find relief in the Lobby and Lounge.

Lobby

The Lobby serves as the central point of arrival and connection at Berkshire South. Here you’ll find membership services, program information, and a gathering place for members and visitors. It reflects our commitment to accessibility, hospitality, and community engagement from the moment you walk through our front doors.

Lounge

The Lounge offers a comfortable, informal setting for rest, conversation, and community connection. It is frequently used by members between programs and activities, or those looking for a welcoming space to chat, take a lunch break, or read and relax, providing space to wait, meet with others, or take a brief pause during a visit to the Center.

Jaffe Auditorium

The Auditorium is a multi-purpose gathering space that supports a wide range of programming, from fitness, yoga, and dance classes to performances, presentations, and special events. With flexible configurations, we can accommodate both large and small groups, serving as an important venue for education, enrichment, and community engagement. Our Auditorium is available for rent.

Robbins Meeting Rooms

Berkshire South’s Meeting Rooms provide adaptable spaces for group activities, instructional programs, and community use. These rooms support organizational meetings, workshops, and collaborative programming offered by both Berkshire South and community partners. They’re a great option for your next team meeting, board meeting, or corporate retreat.

Kitchen

The Kitchen is utilized in support of community programming, including our weekly Community Suppers, nutrition education, food-based workshops, and other events. The Kitchen is fully equipped and available as a rental option to our community.

Fitness & Recreation Spaces

Berkshire South’s fitness and recreation spaces support a wide range of health, wellness, and active living opportunities. Designed to be accessible and welcoming to all, these areas provide the resources and environment for you to build strength, improve well-being, and engage in regular physical activity at every stage of life.

Norris Aquatics Center

The Aquatics Center is a core component of Berkshire South’s health and wellness programming. It includes a 6-lane main pool for lap swimming, instructional programs, recreational use, and adaptive aquatics. In addition, the space supports individuals of all ages and abilities in developing water safety, fitness, and confidence with a shallow Splash Pool (complete with water features) and a warm Therapy Pool for relaxation and recovery. Towels are available for rent at the Front Desk ($1.00 per towel).

Fitzpatrick Fitness Center

The Fitness Center offers a range of cardiovascular and strength training equipment to support individual wellness goals. It serves members of all fitness levels and is an integral part of Berkshire South’s commitment to promoting health, movement, and lifelong wellness. The Fitness Center is always staffed with a Floor Attendant or Trainer.

Beinecke Gymnasium

The Gymnasium is a flexible indoor space that accommodates a variety of recreational and instructional programs, from group fitness classes to drop-in basketball, and pickleball courts.

Locker Rooms

The Locker Rooms provide essential amenities including showers, secure storage, and changing areas. Full-sized lockers are available for one-day use to store items during your visit and must be cleared out when you leave. Half lockers are available for long-term rental.

Saunas

Each Locker Room also has a sauna, offering an additional opportunity for relaxation and recovery as part of a well-rounded wellness experience.

Youth & Childcare Spaces

We know that having quality, dependable childcare is important for working families. Childcare at Berkshire South is available year-round, including during school vacation weeks, early release days, snow days, and other school breaks.

Toddler Room

Our Toddler Room is a state-licensed program designed to provide safe, nurturing childcare for toddlers from ages 15-33 months.

Preschool Classroom

Berkshire South is home to Sunshine Preschool, our state-licensed program for play-based learning that supports development, exploration, and school readiness.

Youth Room

The Youth Room is a designated space for youth programming as well as our out-of-school childcare, offering a safe and supportive environment for school-aged children and teens. It is used for structured activities, enrichment opportunities, and supervised care, supporting the development of social connection, creativity, and engagement.

Playground

This outdoor play space is used by our Sunshine Preschool, Out-of-School childcare, and Action Adventures Day Camp programs to support physical activity and social development. The Playground is not open for public use.

Outdoor Spaces

The grounds extend Berkshire South’s mission beyond the building, offering outdoor space for walking, reflection, and recreation. These areas support physical activity and wellness while providing opportunities to connect with nature in a peaceful, accessible setting.

Community Garden

The Community Garden offers an opportunity for individuals and families to grow their own vegetables, flowers, and herbs in a shared outdoor setting. The fenced garden includes eight 4′ x 14′ raised beds with access to water, available for seasonal rental. It supports hands-on learning, sustainable practices, and connection to the natural environment, while providing space for gardeners of all experience levels to cultivate and enjoy their own harvest.

Field and Pavilion

An open-air gathering space for informal connection, picnics, and quiet outdoor enjoyment. These spaces are heavily used by our Action Adventures Day Camp during the summer months.

Hiking Trail

Our property is home to the trailhead for the southern end of Threemile Hill Trail, which offers easy access to our beautiful backyard forest. The 2-mile trail ascends moderately up the ridge and connects to additional trails maintained by other community partners.
